Ken MacKenzie - President
Managing Director, MacKenzie Strategic Pty Ltd.
Ken's company provides consultancy, auditing and training in food safety, management systems, innovation strategies and Employer of Choice programs. He has a PhD in food microbiology and an MBA with a major in people management. Ken says he became interested in the people management issues during his 10 years in general management.
"You soon realise that whether you have 50 or 500 staff you have to keep them motivated to get the best out of them. And if you do get it right, you get the extra productivity for free because you are already paying your staff anyway."
Ken is a contributing author to 'Innovation and Imagination at Work' writing the chapter entitled ' Surviving the Corporate Jungle: Strategies for Becoming an Innovative Organisation'.
"In the real jungle, animals compete to survive but they also find time to reproduce so the species survives. 'In the corporate jungle we also compete but we don't realise that innovation is corporate reproduction. That's why so many organisations disappear'
Ken has spent over 30 years in the food industry in technical, operational and general management roles. He is nationally known for his work in food safety and has advised many of Australia's leading organisations.
"I am very fortunate to have had experience in a wide range of food sectors and to have a logical and analytical mind. My wife doesn't always think this is a good thing but this logical approach is what lets me develop simple, practical systems for my clients. Quite a few of my new clients are those who already have their safety systems in place but they want them to work better - and to be less bureaucratic. This is what makes my food - safety consultancy work so interesting."
