The PIF was developed by industry through the AFGC to provide a single standardised form that assists with assessing allergen information, labelling compliance, nutrition claims and claims about dietary suitability, sustainability and packaging. PIF 5.0 is the latest incremental version of the PIF and comes with a data migration tool to migrate data from the previous version to the new version.
VITAL (Voluntary Incidental Trace Allergen Labelling) is a risk-based methodology for food producers to use in assessing the impact of cross contact allergens and subsequently determining appropriate precautionary allergen labelling.
VITAL 2.0 is the outcome of the international VITAL Scientific Expert Panel (VSEP) review in 2011. The review provides both increased rigour and credibility of the system, and re-evaluation of action levels consistent with best available international data.
Presented By

Director, Food Policy and Regulation with the Australian Food and Grocery Council. He has been involved with the development of various industry initiatives, such as the AFGC allergen management and labelling guide and PIF 5.0
